Malcolm B. McGregor


After retirement Malcolm read a newspaper article about local bagpiping and free lessons…Carl Wagoner, a piper, encouraged him and William Sutherland Reid Pipes and Drums presented the opportunity. Since then, he has attended four Balmoral summer schools with Allisdar Gilles, Mike Cusack and other notable teachers plus one week of one on one with Roddy MacDonald at the School of Scottish Arts in Sarasota, Florida. Malcolm also attended workshops in Atlanta and in Louisville with Chris Hamilton.

He has competed in Grade IV Senior Solo at the Carrolton and Glasgow games in 2/4, 6/8 and Piobaireachd Ground events….and participated in Grade V Band Competition. As a pipe sergeant/instructor with WSR, Malcolm enjoys teaching beginners and encouraging them to seek instruction from those far more qualified than himself.

As a solo performer, Malcolm plays for weddings, funerals, school events, birthday parties and memorial services.

Malcolm and wife Anne live in Lexington. They have 4 adult children, Anne-Dora Hart, Helen Graham, Evelyn Moulton (d), and Douglas B. McGregor. They have 9 grandchildren (7 girls, two boys).
